#lh

Standard conversation in #lh

#lh (or #LH, depending on who you ask, and when) is the channel where a bunch of disgruntled people assemble, idle, and chat. The channel is on the SlashNET IRC network and, despite articles such as this one, enjoys a fair amount of privacy and anonymity. It is owned by bss and operated by pentium166 and Shrubey.

#lh is the source of countless forms of insanity and goofiness, a bit of flame wars and argument, and on occasion, a good amount of friendly discourse.

Games

A fair number of games are played, intermittently, in the channel. /Trivia is a popular one, as is /VoiceSurvivor. Console/PC gaming also has a strong hold among the members, one such example being the Nintendo DS, for which /FriendCodes are traded.

A Comment on Capitalization

By far the two most common forms of capitalization for the channel name are "#lh" and "#LH", with a loose count seeming to favor lowercase. Lowercase is the common form when speaking specifically of the channel, as #lh. However, the use of uppercase is not uncommon when not preceded by a pound, either due to speaker laziness or otherwise. Only some pay attention to this distinction.

Furthermore, bss maintains the importance of using "#lh", and not "#LH" or "LH", in order to make the distinction between the channel and older usages of "LH" as an acronym in the Nintendo culture that most of the members derive from. As such, bss claims the channel's name is not an acronym.

None of the above speaks of capitalization policies in the channel, which are even more nuanced. For more on this, see /AcroNazi.

Miscapitalization

"#Lh" is a deranged miscapitalization, and our beloved #lh was once under its terrible spell but is no longer. Originally, it was believed that the SlashNET servers were behind this evil, but that turned out to not be so. area51, moo, radon, pinky and vortex have been cleared of all crimes.

It was discovered that some conspirator must have typed #Lh instead of #lh when joining our precious channel, presumably after a netsplit, defiling it in the process. The real perpetrator of this heinous crime has yet to be identified.

"#lH" is only used in an ironic context, usually while bemoaning "#Lh".
